Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Castro Carbonell Jr. PA (Ret.) dedicated 21 years of exemplary service to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), demonstrating exceptional leadership in the fields of intelligence, security, and logistics. His career in the military was marked by several key designations, each contributing significantly to the defense and security of the nation.
Among his notable roles, LTCOL Carbonell served as the Head of the Foreign Liaison Division and Foreign and Domestic Branches within the Intelligence Research and Analysis Division under the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (OJ2). These roles showcased his expertise in managing critical intelligence functions and fostering international collaborations. Additionally, he played a pivotal role as a Tactical Officer at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), where he mentored and guided the future leaders of the armed forces. His tenure as a Security Officer for the Presidential Security Unit further emphasized his strategic skills in ensuring the protection of the nation’s highest officials.
Upon his retirement from military service, LTCOL Carbonell transitioned seamlessly into the private sector, applying his extensive knowledge and leadership capabilities. He served as Security Manager for prominent organizations, including Cemex Philippines, Standard Chartered Bank, Network Security and Investigation, Inc., and Isla Communications Co., Inc. These roles allowed him to contribute to the safety and operational efficiency of leading companies.
His commitment to public service remained steadfast, as he later assumed the role of Building Administrator for the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) from January 2000 to June 2021. In this capacity, he was instrumental in managing and overseeing critical infrastructure that supported urban development initiatives.
Academically, LTCOL Carbonell’s journey reflects his dedication to continuous learning and professional growth. He initially pursued a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at the University of the Philippines from 1973 to 1976 before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the Philippine Military Academy in 1980. Furthering his education, he completed 36 units in a Master in Business Administration program at St. Louis University in 2006. He also participated in the CEMEX Management Development Program at the Asian Institute of Management and attended various military training courses, equipping him with diverse skill sets to excel in multiple fields.
